Any English and/or Journalism majors have any suggestions as to where I should study for Spring 2014?
Message me please! Thanks :)
As my last post about “wild stories” revealed, I don’t lead a [very] exciting lifestyle. These past breaks especially have been awful; during the winter, I had mono, and during sp…

For the past two years, dorm life has not been that exciting. My floor has had only 10 other guys, who, fortunately, were/are decent and respectable (except for the Phantom Pooper, who always ̶…
Future freshman: this is why you should live on campus!
Planning and preparing for college is hard. It’s arguably the most stressful endeavor of our young adult lives, and can either make or break our future hopes, dreams, and plans. Although high…

“There are plenty of fish in sea.” And at Rutgers, there are 58,000 waiting to be hooked.
But whether these fish are waiting to be hooked on or hook up is a mystery to me. At college—where hormones and emotions flare—”dating” doesn’t really seem to be on anyone’s mind. But what do I know? With last week’s fashion article, and now one on dating, I can’t help feeling like this:
But despite my ignorance, I’ll try to write about dating and relationships at Rutgers. If I—someone who wears a hoodie and jeans practically everyday—can construct an article about fashion, then…challenge accepted!
With such a huge student population, I don’t expect that dating would be difficult at Rutgers. Large lecture style classes, co-ed residence halls, and crowded buses make meeting new people not only possible, but also very easy (I mean, c’mon. How can you not talk to the person you’re bumping butts or rubbing noses with on the bus. Don’t be rude!) Right off the bat, the university and resident life staff make an effort to help freshman adjust and make friends, and help them integrate into the community. These encouragements, however, to interact with fellow students don’t end after the first week of freshman year. Resident Assistants (RAs) and the Resident Hall Association (RHA) work tirelessly to make sure that students maintain both a healthy academic and social life. Along with encouraging healthy study habits, both groups coordinate events to get students off the books and out of their rooms. Recently, RHA held a “Speed Friending” event that, much like speed dating, gave students the opportunity to meet new people. And who knows? Maybe some of the event goers met a special someone.
For the already in love, the City of New Brunswick is like the Paris of New Jersey (just kidding). But NB does offer several places to take a date:
But as I mentioned in my opening, there is definitely a strong “hook up” culture at Rutgers, and I would bet my meager checking account that it’s same at all colleges. A fair amount of students don’t want to be tied down to just one person. Rather, they want to have fleeting romances (a fancy way of saying “hit it and quit it”). In a recent article on Alive Campus, Advocate Writer Paige (All The Single Bobcats) wrote of “the possibilities” of being single. I found that Paige’s word—possibilities—is the perfect way to describe singledom on campus: there are “no hesitations,” and you’re “totally game.” You only live once!
